Behringer C-2 mod

What is this modification all about?

Behringer C-2 is great microphone but it’s not looking good and serious. On a microphone stand does not look proportional. Of course, it does not matter at all when it comes to the quality of the recording - but when streaming (and in general, in life) aesthetics matter.

What you can do is buy a long sponge designed for shotgun microphones. These sponges are about 12-15 cm long, so they are much longer than the whole microphone. Therefore, a good and reasonable option is to buy a metal tube to extend the microphone.

To cut a steel pipe straight, without specialized tools - you can use a hose clamp, this is a simple way to make an even cut line. This YouTube video demonstrates it well. I also used sandpaper to peel the paint off the microphone housing itself.

After that you can paint the pipe and microphone body with black paint. Disassemble the microphone before you start painting it, it’s easy, just remove one screw located under the sticker.

Additional notes

The diameter of the inside of the pipe must be larger by AT LEAST one millimeter. When you buy a pipe with an identical inside diameter (which is what I did) it will scratch the microphone and peel the paint because its center is not perfectly smooth. I think it’s worth buying a 24 millimeter diameter tube, with an inside diameter of 22 millimeters. Two millimeters of gap between 20mm microphone will allow you to pad the interior with a minimal amount of sponge.
